Democracy Crisis Response (DCR) is an Albany UU ministry that helps congregants respond to threats to democracy through education, advocacy, public witness, and community action.

Grounded in our Unitarian Universalist values, DCR seeks to inform, equip, and connect people who want to take meaningful action in support of democracy, human rights, and the dignity of all people.

What We Do

Democracy Crisis Response helps congregants:

  • Stay informed about issues affecting democracy and civil liberties
  • Learn about opportunities for advocacy and public witness
  • Connect with local, state, and national organizations working for change
  • Participate in educational programs and discussions
  • Build community and mutual support during challenging times

The group maintains an active email list and weekly bulletin that shares upcoming events, actions, educational resources, and opportunities for engagement.

Recent Activities

Democracy Crisis Response turns concern into action. Over the past year, that has meant showing up together: at rallies, in workshops, at the sign-making table, and in conversations with elected officials.

None of it happens alone. Each event, resource, and partnership below reflects a congregation choosing courage over despair and connection over isolation, grounded always in compassion, respect, and hope.

  • Sponsored educational programs on immigration, democracy, and civic engagement
  • Organized sign-making gatherings and carpools for public witness events and rallies
  • Created and distributed Albany UU’s yellow “Side With Love” scarves for use at demonstrations and community events
  • Supported advocacy efforts through national and local UU organizations
  • Developed resources to help congregants engage elected officials and take effective action
  • Built partnerships with community organizations working to protect democratic institutions and human rights
